In the Spring of 2023, I spent time as a Visiting Professor at the University of Cagliari. With a class of willing first-year students in Prof Marcello Tanca’s class, we crafted a visual urban mosaic of subjective drawn portraits, using the language of comics, with text in Italian, to share stories of home. Some crafted tales from their own experience; others chose to give voice to others, on the basis of short interviews and collected visual archives.

This was a first experience of drawing comics for many of the students. Not all wished to share their work, but these pages were put together to share the work of those who did.

Following the uniquely personal portrayals of places and people in the city that emerged, I put together blog pages to share their work. I designed short posts to weave dialogue between the different stories. These can be accessed using the buttons below.

The mosaic continues to grow in 2024, with another cohort of students.
